Your market position
Set your role, experience, city and CTC to see where you stand.
Know your take-home too
A higher CTC doesn't always mean more in your bank account. Convert any offer into monthly in-hand salary after EPF, professional tax and income tax.
Take-Home Salary Calculator → How companies set your payHow to tell if you're underpaid
The honest answer isn't "what does my friend earn?" — it's where your pay sits in the market range for your exact role, experience and city. Recruiters and HR teams price roles using salary bands built from market surveys, then position each person between the 25th and 75th percentile of that band.
- P25 (low): a quarter of the market earns below this. Sitting here usually signals you're underpaid — a strong basis to negotiate.
- P50 (median): the middle of the market. Most fairly-paid people cluster around here.
- P75 (high): only a quarter of the market earns more. You're well paid for the role and experience.
What is a compa-ratio?
A compa-ratio is your salary divided by the band's midpoint (median). A compa-ratio of 1.0 means you're paid exactly at the market median, 0.85 means 15% below, and 1.15 means 15% above. Many companies target a compa-ratio between roughly 0.9 and 1.1 for solid performers, so a number well under 0.9 is worth a conversation.
Why CTC alone can mislead
Two offers with the same CTC can leave very different amounts in your account, because CTC bundles employer EPF, gratuity and variable pay. Always pair this benchmark check with a take-home salary comparison, and understand how the CTC is actually built.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I am underpaid?
Compare your CTC against the market range for your role, experience and city. If your pay is below the 25th percentile (P25) for that group, you're likely underpaid. Between P25 and P75 is the typical market range, and above P75 means you're paid better than most peers.
What is a good compa-ratio?
Many companies aim for a compa-ratio between about 0.9 and 1.1 for good performers. Below 0.85 often flags an underpaid employee; above 1.15 is well paid. It's a guide, not a rule — skills and performance move the target.
Are these salary numbers guaranteed?
No. They're indicative ranges aggregated from public salary data for India, for guidance only. Actual pay depends on the specific company, your skills, performance, location and negotiation.
